When should a directory be its own content type?

When listings need their own fields, categories, and route pattern, a directory should be treated as a real content type ... not a hacked blog substitute.

A listing usually needs fields that an article does not ... status, category, snapshot details, and related listings.

If the content will grow into collection pages, category pages, and detail pages, it deserves a dedicated structure from the start.

That is why this scaffold uses collection ... category ... item routing for the directory layer.
